How to choose

Wet vs dry

Wet lubes cling through rain and slush but attract grime. Dry lubes run cleaner in dry weather but wash off in the wet.

Wax

Wax-based lubes run very clean, but need a clean chain and careful application.

Application

Wipe the chain clean first, add a drop per link, let it soak in, then wipe off the excess.

How often

As a rough guide, re-lube after wet rides and every few hundred kilometres in the dry.

Quick questions

Wet or dry lube for winter?

Wet. It resists being washed off in rain and spray, which is most of a UK winter.

Can I mix lubes?

It's better not to. Clean the chain first if you switch type.
